Hi all - I bumped into a few of you recently when I logged into the game after about four years. Funcom sent me one of those free 30 day trial with all the expansion packs so I thought I'd give it a try. I was suprised to find NineRivers was still there and even more so to find I still had the TRB channel access.

As I remember, you have to have one character active on an account, which I assume is why Nine was still there. Unfortunately I also remember selling all my kit and putting all the money in the TRB bank, so having no implants, kit or money was a bit of a problem.

However, having played for a few days, and tried a new char, I also remember why I left. It's a very tired old game, with ancient graphics, laggy response (I've now got a super-duper PC that zings along, so that's not the problem) and very repetitive gameplay. Having played WoW and LoTRO (plus looked in on a couple of others) that both have fantastic graphics, no lag and loads of different stuff, AO just doesn't cut it anymore for me.

But it was good to see that TRB is still going strong and I wish you all the best for the future.

Happy Christmas and all that!

Hi Nine :)

It was nice to see you return, but I think you are pretty wrong when it comes to AO. Not only will AO get better graphics soon, but since funcom has kept adding content to the game over 10 years I think its pretty safe to say that AO is by far one of the games with the most content out there.
I just don't think you really gave it a chance after logging on with no equip etc.
The game has changed a lot since you left, it has grown much larger and there are many more choises of what to do ingame.
I'm not really experiencing much lag either, if its not your computer or your connection, it could be some settings or something else.
AO used to be pretty laggy before, but not anymore since they upgraded all servers some time ago.

Anyway, nice to see you again, just don't think you gave the game a fair chance when you returned ;)

Yeah, WoW may be prettier (looking forward to new AO gfx engine tho!), but I pulled a quote off OCC for my logon msg not long ago that I thought sums it up well:

"playerx: this game too complicated for me...i go back to WoW. bye"

Was glad to see you ingame again Nine! Maybe you'll come back again after the gfx engine comes!

Many in TRB don't know you were the original creator of the TRB banks system that has now grown to it's current monstrosity :)

Hope to see you again sometime

PS: Upgraded your forum access in case you'd like to stop by some more and check up on us!

Welcome back NineRivers, Merry Christmas to you too! :)

I also came back to AO after one of those emails from Funcom. But my experience has been different. I have a decent laptop on a wireless connection and I experience no lag at all (which I am very happy about, I remember how bad the lag was back in the day). If you experience lag with a "super-duper PC", there is very likely a connection issue.

I also find the graphics here a bit old, but I wouldn't say they are worse than LOTRO. I played that, it seemed awfully cartoonish. WoW, on the other hand, has updated graphics, but seemed too youngster-oriented for my personal taste. So I sacrifice the eye-candy in favor of the society and game mechanics here. Just my own personal preference. Clearly, WoW attracts a lot of mmorpg players.

I really am looking forward to improved graphics in AO though. :) I wonder if The Secret World will be released before AO gets new graphics.

Hmm I got up to level 185 in AO, so I don't think that was an issue. Plus, whilst WoW has some great features, after getting up to level 65, it got pretty samey and I gave up on it. LoTRO I loved, but levelled out and haven't played it for a while.

Maybe when the new graphics come in I'll have another look. Trouble is, I'm not sure I want to level a new char again, and Nine is pretty stuffed with no implants or money!

Hasn't improved much since then.

If you choose to return and stay we will ofcourse help you get back on track Nine :)

We always do that, specially if a member gave away all its items and credits to the org upon leaving.
And there is a reason why we kept you in the org while you were away.
To welcome you back if you should return

It's a pretty different AO world you are returning to tho.
Daily missions makes both regular levels, research and alien levels go smoother, atleast if you combine it with regular leveling.
Not sure if you heard of OFAB armor, but it has been made tradeable now.
I could farm a full set of OFAB and a engelen ring for you, wich should sort out the armor part to begin with.
Symbiants you could borrow from the bank until you grow out of them or want XAN symbiants instead.
When it comes to NCU I'm sure you could borrow some there too, but you'd want to visit Sector7 for uber deck and ncu before level 200
After 200 you'll get to see a whole new world.
Pandemonium and The Beast, Alien Playfield 42, The Collector, Dust Brigade Quests, Elders Hall, Arid Rift, Nerveta...
It goes on and on, Funcom has added a lot of endgame content the last couple of years.

Anyway, let us know what you decide and we'll help you get back on track should you choose to stay.

I'm away until 21.december, so can't do much until then atleast.

Many thanks for the generous offer Snake, I'll consider it and see about coming back. Perhaps I didn't give it enough time.
