Storm is an org many people, including me, have been looking up to back in the old days. Here is a few 'blast fromt the past' moments from Storm when they were in their prime time, with the date included!

The objective of Clan Storm is to become a dominant force that can single handedly eradicate the Omni scum from Rubi-Ka.

Congratulations Storm

Congratulations, yes. In what is the first 'reported' single guild kill of ‘the pest’. The successful annihilation of this poor deranged creature was lead by the driven General Fredrico Gunnandahalf Guynes. Congratulations also go to Genaro Louisvile McChristian, for obtaining the Left sleeves of the pest. This once again proves that without a doubt, Storm is once again at the top of its game, pulling together and growing Stronger. It is only by efforts such as these that we will single handedly eradicate all the Omni-scum from the face of Rubi-Ka.
Regards,
Caleena

No more fun leveling for Jo0

Well Scuttler missions are over and we can all go back to the grind. It was too good to be true. It was confirmed by an official post this morning from Funcom's own, Cz.
So sad... *sniff*
Cz
"Hi everybody,
As several of you have found out already, the downtime today was to remove the insane XP bonus on the different kind of Scuttlers found in missions.
Yes, it was too "good" to be true. The lizard somehow got an XP bonus reserved for bosses and uniques, like The One and Ian Warr. It was never meant to have this, and it was removed. That it didn't get removed last Friday was a misunderstanding.
And while some will say it's not fair that some got to reap this bonus for an entire weekend, we are not even considering a rollback. Taking away everybody's gain over 3-4 days is not a good remedy for a few people leveling a bit faster than normal.
Feedback about the Scuttlers - and hunting them - has been noted, both for and against, and forwarded to the designers. If you feel you have something we really haven't heard by now, feel free to send me a private message."

Inner Sanctum

New patch is up. Inner Sanctum dungeon is live. Sounds a bit like a crashing lagfest from what I read at work, but hey stuff happens when everyone's been chomping at the bit for months waiting for the only high-level dungeon to be introduced. Check out the link for the full patch notes.

Content Upgrade: Inner Sanctum

Thursday July 3rd 2003
A small, albeit devout, cult worshipping the power of the three winds of time was discovered ob Rubi-Ka some time ago. Hidden inside their massive temple complex, they had for decades tried to unleash the power of the three winds that they thought would lead them on a journey to paradise.
Now the seal to the Inner Sanctum has broken. Hezak the immortal, the enigmatic cult leader, is thus unveiled at last. It’s been reported that the zealous cult subordinates deals with any threat interfering with their secret rituals. Citizens are warned to keep away.

Clarification of Policy at Spawned Mobs

Free for all has caused a bit of a stir and not many actually understand exactly what Wolfe meant by "honorable" FFA, so I'm going to give a little more info for the laymen out there. I'll even use a small illustration.
I know what you're saying, OMG Storm is the devil. Well, yeah we are the devil, but we don't kill steal other people's spawned mobs. We don't pull someone else's mobs and we don't go if we do not spawn with more than 2 members (yes it is possible to spawn the placeholder with 2 members...we've done it) unless we're invited there to help a guild that did spawn.
----------------------------
All right, so we've got good old ace camp. FFA by definition would be every guild piling onto the mob in question, possibly creating all sorts of trains in the process, or maybe just the plain old-fashion Kill Stealing grief tactic.
First come first served or "honorable" FFA on the other hand keeps everyone out of each other's hair, for the most part.
Storm doesn't want every mob in the area to add and doesn't want every guild to lose out, so instead Storm pulls first come first serve. Storm pulls a Merc, guild A sees we've pulled 1 and pulls the 2nd, guild B pulls a 3rd, and then perhaps Storm have killed their first and pull the 4th then there's one Merc left over and whoever has finished first would pull that Merc.
We do understand that Free for All makes it sound like we're competing for every single mob, and we are competing on a time basis, but we're not attempting to kill-steal someone else's pulls. First Come First Served would have been a more applicable name, but oh well. No one needs much excuse to grief the uber guild, right?
We had leech guilds attached at the hip and now we don't. Deal with it. People claimed we were unfair before and they claim we're unfair now. Now we just don't have to argue with you for 20 minutes before we start pulling. You can still co-op if you don't have enough members to do it on your own and pull mobs for the two of you. We don't generally co-op, so if we are in a down time we're unlikely to show up and rain on your parade.
Also, to believe Storm would go out of their way just to screw up the pull is just insanely stupid. We would like the loot just as much as every other guild in game but if someone screws up we take it on the chin and learn from our mistakes. We don't run whining to everyone and his dog because someone forgot to take an RRFE off before pulling.
If you feel someone did not follow this policy contact a guild officer at the time of the incident. A list of officers can be found HERE.

Winter is here

I remember an early winter 4 years ago. I had spent almost a full year offline in the real world as we call it and I though the real world was enough for me. Somewhere around the time where the sun set as I got off the subway from work I woke up. Ultima Online felt old, so I got myself a copy of EverQuest as that was the new title in the MMORPG genre. I played EverQuest much, learned things about high level gameplay that never was part of Ultima Online, then I left the country for a while.
So why would I write something as silly as that on the Storm frontpage?
When the dark and cold of winter comes alot of enlightened gamers find the everyday real life entertainment lacking. Imagine spending all those hours in front of the TV every day, teh horror. With the winter we see many friends who have been gone since spring return to the game, the streets of Rubi-ka fills again with true noobs, the token force of players who have been online over the summer becomes the veterans for the coming season and life returns to the lands destined to die by self proclaimed prophets.
The old players who have been away over the summer will return to a world that stands on its head. You might be curious about why and I will describe the reason briefly and start with describing the nature of successful expansions in other games of the genre. Most good expansions add new areas to the game, the majority of these new areas are directly accessible to the players, the difficulty of the environment in the new areas determine where players go.
These kinds of expansions are successful in the eyes of the established players and the reason for success comes from players beeing able to maintain their structure of interraction and progress in the expansion together or individually as they desire while also adding more content to the game. Some high level encounters might need key quests to be accessible, the nature of those encounters require massive groups of players to come along.
So what makes the Shadowlands expansion turn the game on its head for many old players? I can answer that with ease: It breaks the rules of successful expansions. The expansion is not accessible for players to enjoy together. It has to be conquered on an relatively individual basis, splitting the Shadowlands explorers into little cells, isolated from eachother and unable to assist eachother for a significant amount of time as they advance.
I hear many players argue and saying things like Shadowlands beeing EverQuest but in Anarchy Online. I dont know where this comes from, but I would not agree. EverQuest never forced players to go on individual quests to be able to level with their friends in a new expansion. The key quests in EverQuest were made for End Game raids, not for reaching the content within the new expansion.
After having heard concerns from a large amount of oldskool AO players I estimate about half of them wanting to find a new game because of this flaw with the Shadowlands expansion. The true noobs who still are looking for something to do during the winter will find Shadowlands pleasing, they will grow up with it and their culture will be based on the current state of the game.
There is a culture shock currently pushing oldskool players away, the noobs of today will grow up and create their own culture that is adapted to the current state of the game. How long they last will be up to Funcom. I will advice against improvising another expansion and launching it upon the players without knowing a whole lot about how the players will react.
Better safe than sorry.
Feel free to discuss or flame this article here.

First Level 220

Myrielh from Redemption is the first level 220 character in AO.
When Myrielh reached the landmark level a message was broadcasted to everyone on the server. "You feel the core of your being shift, as the source makes room for a divine presence. Myrielh has reached enlightenment".
Congrats! Hopefully we'll have a few 220s not far behind. :)
